The Sandringham Dragons U16 Boys program has elevated a squad of players to be in contention to represent the club at the AFL Victoria Metropolitan Championships in April.
It was a highly competitive process as a result of the vast number of talented youngsters coming through the youth system.
U16 Head Coach Jackson Kornberg has been impressed with the efforts of all the boys and is excited about the challenges that lay ahead of the group.
"The boys have trained exceptionally hard since November and they are quickly adapting to the higher standards that have now been set for them upon entering the talent pathway,” Kornberg said.
"The list runs really deep, and as such it was a really difficult task for myself and the coaches to select a group of boys to elevate to the squad of players.
"The beauty about me being my first year in the role is I have come with a completely blank canvass, with no pre-conceived ideas about players. We've got a great coaching group in Mark Cooke, Nathan Beaumont, Brad Yorke & Josh Galbraith, as well as Lachie Butler and Darren Cox in the high-performance department who have been critical in the development of the boys so far and there has certainly been massive improvement since the first day of pre-season.”
Following a short break after the series of games in April, the entire squad (including those not selected in the elevated group) will recommence training for the remainder of the year.
"We are really happy with the progress of the entire squad and really look forward to the entire program coming back together mid-year after a short break post the April games,” Kornberg said.
